Fellowship

‘Glorious things are said of you, city of God: …

Then those who sing as well as those who play shall say “All my springs of joy are in you”’
Psalm 87:3,7 NASB

Consider the spokes on a bicycle wheel, think of them as people.  The closer they come to the hub, Jesus, the closer they come to each other.

God has so willed it that He puts us together in fellowship with others.  The closer we grow together towards God, the more we will see Jesus in each other.

The joy we experience in fellowship is intensified and enriched by the very fact that we share it with others.  When we express joy we are bringing that joy to the surface, when we share joy with one another it surrounds us and sweeps us up together into the same life-giving current.  Joy on our own is great but joy in fellowship with others is so much more.  It breaks over us like the waves of a great ocean.

And so fellowship is another of our furrows.

Paul of course gives us an amazing illustration of the body of Christ in 1 Corinthians 12 that illustrates just how much we need each other.  We feel with each other in our joy and in our pain.

Consider also the wider body of Christ. Pray for other churches to be blessed and be a blessing. We must rejoice when another church is doing well! We all have our way of doing things and churches are no different but we can learn from one another.

Let us pray for one another as we fellowship together.

…. and if you are out of fellowship with anyone – put it right!
